Facts About the Android Tablet

The Android is a relatively new operating system which was designed for mobile devices such as cell phones, tablet computers, and netbooks. The Android OS is developed and designed by Google and is based upon GNU and Linux Kernel software. Statistics point out that the android tablet OS is ranked second among all smartphone OS handsets in North America.

The android OS will have many major advantages, such as Flash capabilities. Apple's OS is quite intolerant of third party applications, the exact opposite is true of the android tablet OS which allows anybody to share with everyone what they have developed, even just for this reason alone, the android tablet is already better than the competition.

The android is also less restrictive about hardware and ports. Most android tablets come with USB ports and that alone is already a massive advantage to other tablet PCs as one would be able to use flash drives, keyboards, and all sorts of devices which plug into a USB port.

One slight drawback is that the android OS comes in different versions which have some slight differences among them. Android Honeycomb is the current Google Android OS. One of the most obvious examples is enhanced applications in Honeycomb. Many of the native apps on Android have been completely rethought and enhanced, such as the email, browser, android market, Google Talk, and YouTube.

Email. The email apps (both Gmail and everything else) use a two-pane system. This means the left pane starts out listing all available folders for that email account, but when you choose something from the panel on the right side, that then slides over to the left and replaces the folder list. Browser. The biggest enhancement is tabbed browsing. Android Market. "My apps" section shows a listing of all apps you've downloaded, updated and/or installed. This listing of My Apps also notices if any updates are available, keeps me apprised of download/install progress, and is easy to scroll through.

Google Talk. The integration of native video chat and Google Talk app makes it more convenient and accessible for anyone to use it. YouTube. It has made Android much smarter in the process. As a result, Honeycomb will make Android tablets much more competitive with the iPad than existing Android devices running earlier versions of the Android software.
