The latest incarnation of the Android Nexus phone has now been released, the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a direct upgrade to the previous Google Nexus S smart phone and is the first handset to showcase the latest version of the Android operating system.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus deals have now been released on T-Mobile which is the fourth UK network to launch deals for this new phone, however the operator has beaten its rival companies to launch the cheapest deal available for a free Galaxy Nexus phone.
This T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Nexus deal is on their aptly named '£25 + Internet' tariff which includes a healthy 500MB of internet access every month, this is something that the phone will need to operate at its premium by updating applications, allowing for internet browsing, checking emails and downloading new content.
Also included in this T-Mobile package are 900 minutes every month which can be used to call other mobile networks as well as landline numbers and 500 text messages for those that like to send simple SMS to their friends.
As the tariff name suggests, this Samsung Galaxy Nexus deal costs the consumer £25 line rental per month and is on a 24 month contract agreement, the closest that rival networks can get to this free phone deal is from O2 at £32 per month, that is a saving of £168 over the minimum contract period.
Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus deal from O2 cannot compete in terms of inclusive minutes as it offers just 300 minutes compared with the 900 of the T-Mobile tariff, for those that love to send text messages it does include unlimited messaging but with so many people using social networking as their main form of contacting friends the T-Mobile deal is a far more attractive offering.
What does the Samsung Galaxy Nexus offer?
This is the first ever smart phone to show off the new Android 4.0 operating system, this includes new features such as facial recognition to unlock to screen, advanced NFC technology which includes file sharing capabilities, Google+ integration and enhanced task management over previous versions of the software.
The phone itself offers a large 4.65 inch Super AMOLED touch screen, a 5.0 mega pixel camera with new features such as continuous shot panorama mode, a fast dual core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and connectivity using WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and 3.5G data support.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has now been released across four of the UK mobile networks with more releases expected soon, this means that deals for this new Android phone will get even cheaper as more retailers start to receive their first stocks.

It's hardly the best kept secret in the world that most people don't use all the minutes they bought and paid for every month via their contract with telecom companies. It's hardly surprising therefore that contracts like this bring in record profits for carriers. Add to that the price gouging for SMS and one sees that it's a pretty good deal for US carriers. I never thought that anything would ever be able to break this stranglehold and motivate one of the carriers to provide a plan catering to data heavy users who hardly use their voice minutes. I was wrong.
And it took a carrier in trouble strike the first blow. T-Mobile has been losing contract customers for quite a while now, and the fact that it doesn't carry the iPhone on its network is a big reason for that. The latest iPhone 4S runs on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint... but not on T-Mobile. So what's a carrier to do in these tough times? The answer it seems lies in doing the unthinkable. A few days ago, T-Mobile tied up with Walmart to offer the holy grail of data plans to consumers. And it consists of unlimited data and 100 minutes of voice without a contract! The announcement wasn't clear initially about whether or not this plan would work only on T-Mobile phones, but later clarifications seem to indicate that you can use the service on any unlocked phone you choose.
It's impossible to overstate what a huge deal this is for VoIP users at several levels. In the first place, the data will be provided at 4G speeds - meaning that VoIP calls will be able to go through perfectly without any hassle. And as for data caps, the speed will drop only after the 5 GB limit is crossed. 5 GB is a lot. You can probably talk for every single moment throughout the month on VoIP and not use up even half of that. So no real fears of any data overage. In any case, after 5 GB the speeds merely drop. No charges per MB. And that's very reassuring.
Most importantly, it indicates a shift in mindset. That data intensive customers cannot be ignored and that voice isn't the killer application on a smartphone. It ties in neatly with the reality that modern smartphones are nothing but mini computers with wireless radios. There's absolutely no need to bundle it with a voice service. Change has been slow so far, but it looks like we might finally reach a stage where everything is "just data" and we can end our over reliance on voice carriers for providing us with mobile communication.
